Biagio is a Canadian man whose family is Italian of background.
I met Biagio the other day. Biagio came back from Ireland recently with a Ph.D degree. Years ago, when I met him for the first time in Korea, he was working at an institute to teach English. He was in his early 20s, now he is in his 30s. I remember what he said in Korea, “If you find anyone who wants to learn Italian, I would appreciate it if you introduce him to me.” Now that I considered him as an English teacher,I wondered why he wanted to teach Italian instead of English, but I never asked him why.
I was ok when someone told me that Biagio went back to his country, Canada, but I was very surprised when I was told Biagio left an envelope with $2,000 in a taxi by mistake on the way to the airport. Later when he arrived at his home, he called his friends in Korea to tell them his woes.
When I heard Biagio’s miserable last minute experience in Korea, I felt not only sorry for him but felt funny. Because I had heard from his co-workers, mostly foreign English teachers that Biagio was the cheapest guy. He was well known as the most frugal guy among foreign English teachers at that time, but he lost a big sum of cash at one time by leaving it in a taxi on the way back home!
He is currently looking for a job to teach at a university. I asked him, “Biagio, how could you manage all your expenses while studying?” Biagio said, “all money I saved working in Korea and working as a waiter in a pizza restaurant in Ireland was used for my studying all years. Besides I know how to save money in Europe”
“How?’
“Haha… I drank beer for dinner”
“Did you work for a long time in Ireland?”
“Yes, worked for a year in a pizza restaurant until I was fired”
“You got fired?”
“Yes, my ex-girlfriend was visiting me at that time, so I took her to some sightseeing. She was carrying a heavy suit case, so I tried to impress her by lifting her suit case and putting it into overhead bin on a bus, and then my one shoulder was dislocated!”
He continued, “I was going to keep working at the restaurant, but couldn’t work properly with my dislocated shoulder…soon the chef made me quit the job.”
He still seemed angry with the fact that his ex-girlfriend caused him to get fired.
Even though all stories sounded miserable, I couldn’t help laughing including him.
Biagio is broke now. I encouraged him, “You made a good choice! You invested all your money on yourself.”
I checked all the links that you sent.
Interesting,
Yes, It’s not strange for korean women to hold hands.
Recently I visited my mother and sister in LA, I was tempted to hold their hands, but didn’t. I said,”We shouldn’t hold hands, they may think we are lesbians.” We laughed.

Yeah, probably he has lots of more interesting stories.
Heh as a meal? I’m not so sure that’s quite healthy, even for thick european beers. I’m sure he could spend a lot less buying ingredients for sandwitches. But it sounds like he’s had an interesting life so far – living in so many different places.
