Confident Junghee

One of my housewife students Junghee gave me a present after summer vacation.
“This is a little thing for you. I bought this lotion on the airplane on the way back home from America”. It was a little gift wrapped box.

“How was your trip? Did you have any problems with understanding what they said?”

She answered, “Yes, I couldn’t understand them perfectly, but no problems with communication!” She added, “hohoho.. this time, thanks to my English ability, I got lots of compliments from people I met including my husband! My husband’s English is much better than me, but he always hesitated to talk. I was the most talkative person of my family!” One of other students looked at her enviously, “In English?” She said, “Of course! How would they understand Korean?”

She was confident in whatever she was doing in class. When I had the class repeat some sentences after me, Junghee was always repeating twice each sentence that caused us to hear her voice like echoes. Sometimes other students gave her dirty look, but she didn’t seem to care.

I opened the box later when I came home. When I read the instructions on it, I was surprised that it was not a lotion but a cream that was to reduce fat! She must have bought a dozen boxes of the cream and shared them with her many friends or relatives!

The cream was kept in my drawer for a few months until I heard my Canadian friend’s complaint. She said, “One thing I feel frustrated with living in Korea is that they don’t produce any products for a big person like me. I have to ask my mother to send me even a bra!” Once I heard it, I remembered the cream in my drawer.

Later, I carefully gave her the cream.

    I never know about it.
If the cream is put on somebody’s face, would her face get smaller? : )
