I worked in the morning at Rabba 3 times a week for about 3 months. When I told all my friends how I found a job as a cashier, everybody encouraged me and cheered me up. “Hey, you only came a month ago, but you found a job easily!” “very nice!” I felt I became very successful.
Rabba is selling some fresh food delivered by some other people. One day I talked to Frank “Frank, I am a good cook. Can I sell my food here? I will bring some food, if it is tasty, please introduce me to your boss to let me sell my food here” He said, “sure, bring some food.” I took my Korean style fried chicken which is hot spicy and coated with honey and peanuts to the grocery store and fed all the employees including Frank.
Next day, Frank was quiet about my chicken. I bothered him, “What did your boss say? Did he taste it?” Frank said, “I have allergy with peanuts and don’t like fried food…” I realized it didn’t work. By the way, he is the only one guy who didn’t like my chicken so far.
However, I found my customer sooner or later. Vicky, my coworker, a very experienced cashier who gave me training, liked my sushi. One Sunday she even asked me to deliver sushi to her house. Vicky introduced me to one of the store’s regular customers named Dave. He always came to Rabba to buy his lunch. Through Vicky I sold my homemade burritos.
He went almost crazy about the burritos I made. He kept ordering his lunch box. I had to save his name as “Food Dave” in my cell phone not to get confused with my real friend Dave. He said he would introduce me to his tenants, in the bachelor apartment building across the street. Wow, it became my business!
When I almost started the food business, I was offered to teach English at a college.
So I chose the teaching job without hesitation.
One day when I stopped by Rabba to pick up some groceries, I heard one of the customers behind me talking about me, saying: “Oh that Rabba girl?”
Yes, I used to be a Rabba Woman not a girl : )
