Like father, like son

The brave professor I mentioned previously has a wife and 2 teenager sons.
I was invited to his house with other friends not long after they came to America.

Mr.Han said he would order pizza from “Pizza hut” for us. I assumed he would ask us to call to “pizza hut” because it might be confusing to order through phone especially they were newcomers.

In my experience, it took long time to order something through the phone. But, he went to his son’s room and came back and said, “My son will order pizza for us”

I heard the son talked on the phone, all I heard was “yeah, yeah…”.
Soon after pizza delivery man came and brought what his son ordered.

It was a small size pizza and 8 big size of pink color beverages that I still can’t figure out what it was. The tiny size of pizza was totally not enough for 8 members to share, so we had to fill out our stomach with the huge cups of pinkish beverage.

It must have been the first time for them to order pizza at home because his wife was very embarrassed with my mention that she needed to tip the delivery man.

In my case, I always ask to make sure if I’m doing that I’m supposed to do, but Mr.Han was too brave to ask questions.

When I was on the way to Lake Toba in Indonesia, I stopped by a local restaurant to eat lunch. They brought a huge plate in which about dozen kinds of dishes and rice. Nobody understood English.

I tried to taste every dish. Later, they brought an exorbitant amount of bill:35000 Rupee in their money. It was “Padang style” of serving food in Indonesia, and every dish touched was calculated as 1 dish. I was ripped off, but
I remember American 1 dollar was 7000 rupees, it was still very cheap.

No I don’t think I’ve ever had that problem. The worst would be at an indian or japanese restaurant. But I’ve always had friends with me who knew what they were doing. :)

    Is that Pink lemonade?
It was not tasty at all!

Some new immigrants are very nervous when they order food at a restaurant due to language barrier.
    -from my experience–

Have you ever been in the similar situation?

Pink lemonade. :) The guy who took the order was probably making fun of the person ordering and took advantage.
