Would you like to learn about Korean food?
Korean Tofu stew, DoenJang Chigae, is made with vegetables, tofu, and beanpaste.
It’s koreans’ everyday house food. We eat it with other sidedishes and rice,
but sometimes, especially in the southern part of Korea, we eat this stew with barley rice, vegetable salads, hotpepper paste all mixed together. Almost all of koreans love this food.

Hi,Oxana,
Sorry about late reply.
If the Doenjang chigae(Tofu stew with beanpaste) is too thick for you, yes, use less vegetables than you did.
I never use broth. Did you put some dried anchovies? 7 big size of dried anchovies will be enough for the recipe. And as you saw in my cooking video, I added some shrimp for better taste.
Hope your next stew is successful. Please let me know.
One more question… among the korean food my favorites are japchae and mandu (I tasted them during my visit to Seoul – it was wonderful!). May be you know how to cook them too. I have a Korean Home Cooking book, but I do not understand how to cook according to this book and that is why it looks so boring to me. With your video and comments I felt very confident and could make the soup in almost no time! It appeared to be so easy… Looking forward to have new nice recipies from you.

Hi, Maangchi,
thank you for reply. I just found the nearest Asian food store (pretty small one) and was able to buy all necessary things including earthware cooking pot. The same day I prepared the soup. My husband just loved it! As for me, I liked it too. But found the broth was not reach in taste enought. May be I put too much potatos… Can I use anything like kombu dashi or some other broth base?

Hi, Oxana,
Thank you for your interest in my cooking video. You can use any pot for this stew. But if you have a nice earthenware like the one I use, it may help look more delicious. : )
It will take about 15 minutes until the pieces of potatoes are cooked fully.
Hi, Maangchi,
thank you for the nice recipe.I am going to try it once I get all the ingredients I need. I just wanted to ask how long I have to boil this soup. Is there any difference if I use common cooking pot and electric stove?
Oxana
yes, I used korean beanpaste for this stew. No need to add salt, because beanpaste is salty. If you really want to learn this, send me e-mail, then I will explain to you in detail.
Thank you! I really enjoyed this one. Other than the red paste, did you use any other spices?
