Hi! I'm Maangchi. Welcome to my website.
I started posting videos on YouTube for fun in April 2007 and was surprised at how many people wanted to watch them, and how passionate they were about learning how to cook Korean food.
I'm not a professional chef and I don't have a TV show. I like cooking, just like you.
People sometimes ask me questions about myself and how I got the name Maangchi and all kinds of things. If you want to know, you can watch this video that I made when I was "tagged":
KBS in Korea also did a nice report on me. It's in Korean, but even if you can't understand the language, you will understand what's going on:'
I was interviewed by Philip Gowman of London Korean Links over dinner in Oct ober 2009, it was nice to meet him and he wrote some really nice things about me and my website.
My friend told me about this Maangchi Facebook fan club. Go and check it out if you have a Facebook ID (please talk about good things about me :))
I'm also trying twitter these days. I'm at twitter.com/maangchi.
I was interviewed by the Joongang Ilbo which is interesting only if you read Korean.
I'm Canadian living in Toronto but recently I moved to New York. I try to have as many meetups as I can, wherever I can. I had a meetup in LA in Feb. 2009:
In December 2008 I met with people in Toronto:
and in July 2008 I met with some of my readers and viewers in New York City:
And I met them again in New York in June 2009:
And in New Jersey in Oct, 2009:
Stay tuned for more meetups!
