I’m proud to announce that I’ll be participating in Asian Feastival on Sept 6, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel in Flushing. I’ll be there from 11am until 5pm. I was invited to be one of the panelists, so I’ll be surrounded by Asian food gurus. : )

I’m going to be showing people how to make perilla leaves kimchi and spicy, stuffed cucumber kimchi. Outside of Korean culture, perilla leaves are not a common ingredient, so I hope my small efforts will contribute to promoting healthy Asian cooking to the American mainstream.

Ever since I posted a video on how to make perilla leaf kimchi on YouTube, some of my readers have surprised me by growing their own in their garden! I don’t have a yard here, so I make an annual trip to Queens for perilla leaves. This year I was too late and I missed the perilla leaf lady, so for the demo I’m going to bring perilla leaves from the Korean grocery store.

If you’re interested in coming to Asian Feastival, let me know. They’re going to give me a promo code for my readers, so you’ll get a discount on the ticket price. A portion of the ticket price will go directly to the New York Food Bank, which is a something I believe in – the proceeds from the New York Kimchi Festival were donated to them, remember?
