I know you’ve moved out from Toronto for quite some time now but I use to live there and recently went to England to study. I wish I had known about you eariler, I have many friends that are korean and would have LOVED to meet you! I think cooking is such a special tool as it brings people together and creates communication. Thank you for doing what you do! I love korean food! :D

I live in West Harlem, right next to Columbia and Morningside Park!

I bet I shopped at the same Korean grocery you have, on 32′nd and Broadway!

Unfortunately they did not have frozen oysters for my Kimchi I am making as we speak (just got done salting). I am going to run out and buy fresh ones at Citarella and come back and finish the prep work.

Hopefully you’ll have a meetup in the spring! That would be great.

I happen to stumble on your website from reading a korean cooking pdf file which was made by you that I downloaded from the internet and that’s how it lead me to this awesome website!!!! love all your videos

i’ve been watching your cooking videos for a while! :D by the way i love your kitchen :) i go to a korean church, but i’m chinese. my best friend is korean too, i loveeee korean food. and cause of your awesome video, i can cook with them instead of just eating :P so FUN! :D thanks for making such awesome videos. i’m from NYC TOO :D wow so excited for you moving here. even though i might be a little late on congratulating you :P

Hi Maangchi, I’m so happy to find your web site – you have a great style and make me want to cook, cook, cook. My husband and I are both American born Koreans living in NYC with three kids. We both grew up in the midwest in the 70′s and 80′s and unfortunately don’t speak Korean, so our connection is really through food.

In any case, I found your site when I tried to find a recipe for jja jjang myun, because I never found a place I think is really good in NYC. But I found jjajjang myun and many others that I love like eggplant gaji namul (this is my moms special, she makes the same – only tear). Actually, I’m looking for two other recipes that are my mom’s “family recipes” 1.) dukboki royal style – not spicy and 2.) eggplant stuffed with meat and doen jang in a really good broth.

Do you know of these? Her family and my husbands family came to North Korea so I think they are more Northern specialties.

I hope you like NYC. It can be wonderful and weird, crowded and lonely all at the same time

I’ve come to know cultures through food too.
Thanks to you, i get to have a first hand experience in cooking korean food…ahh so delicious!~ XD
As a high school student, i usually just go to koreatown with some of my friends to eat dukbokki and other korean delicacies… but now..i could just make it at home! XD
