Blog:

What’s happening to Maangchi these days?

Hi, everybody,

You might be wondering why some people are leaving illegible comments on my website, or if you have Korean fonts installed, you might wonder why there are so many Korean comments these days?

Dakshana Bascaramurty wrote about me in The Globe and Mail last week, which is Canada’s biggest newspaper. Ever since then I’ve been getting so many interview requests from newspaper reporters and TV and radio broadcasting companies.

All major Korean newspapers and internet news portals have been reporting on the Globe and Mail article for days. I’m surprised at the tremendously powerful effect of the Globe and Mail newspaper!

These are the articles that I found on the internet (hehe, sorry, you can’t read it because it is written in Korean, but at least you can see the photo of my face on the kimchi video):

Yesterday, Sunday at 4:30 pm (Korean time was 6:30 am on Monday), I was interviewed by Mr. Doowon Seo on his live radio show in Korea named “Sisa Jeonmangdae” (current news) for about 10 minutes. Over the phone, he asked if I had ever expected my recipe videos would be popular like this. I answered, “No, never! I’m surprised!”

Anyway he asked how I got my name “Maangchi” when I opened the interview with: “Hi, I’m maangchi!” I mentioned how the name was my character’s name in an on-line game I used to play.

He said, “Oh, you are 52, but you used to play an on-line game”

You know my answer? Guess! : )

“Age is just a number!” He was laughing over the phone.

I was also interviewed by Mr. No Yeol Kim for the New York Korea Times (“Hanguk Ilbo”) a couple of days ago and this morning they posted this: http://ny.koreatimes.com/article/570318.

Eventually I will collect these interviews on my “About” page, if you’re interested to read them. I have some requests from Korean TV broadcasting companies, so if you’re in Korea you might see me on TV soon! I will let you know.

    Hi Mangchi Darling,

I’ve noticed lately a lot more people have viewed my video response to your Bulgogi video. I guess it’s because of all your coverage in Korean newspapers and the internet. It’s all good. ^__^

Stay ever-young, Mangchi, age means nothing. It’s how you feel and what you think inside that is important.

Last night I sent in my application to teach English in Korea so please wish me good luck. I’m 50 years old but inside I am still 23 years old. ^__^

    Luv u,
    xxx

    Maangchi,

Just like to say thanks. My Wife is Korean and she really appreciated that I made some Korean food for her. Couldn’t have done it without your site.

    Thanks! ^__^

Thanks for all you do. I live in Sarasota and there isn’t any Korean cooking here. I recently went to Las Vegas and ate at a wonderful Korean restaurant. I miss the food and now I’m going to make more of my own. Thanks again.

This comment page is turning out to be almost all about your age. And I am not complaining. ;) I, myself had also wondered about that. It sure comes as a good surprise to know the real number. (giggles)

I wish I could get my wife into video games. I’m not a big gamer, but I think that they are more fun for anyone these days. I would have thought you were in your early thirties. My Korean wife is 39 and looks young too, but you both look about the similar age. Maybe Korean food is the fountain of youth! If that is true I mustn’t eat enough, so I am going gray at 30. I hope that your popularity brings a widespread appreciation for Korean foods. Keep it going!
