Hi, readers,

My 100 stories blog has not filled 100 stories yet, but I have been interested in teaching korean cooking these days. Just like others, time is limited, so I decided to do what I like at this moment, making cooking videos. But I will come back to my 100 stories blog someday to fulfill my promise to finish 100 stories. So far I have written about 75 stories.

2007 Toronto Caribana

I went to Caribana Festival this year, too.
Last year, I got a good spot to see all the parade, but I didn’t this year.
I had to walk all the way to see it on hot day.
I am posting some pictures that I took though. I stayed for a while after the parade was done and watched people enjoy their getting together. I felt I was in the middle of their community. Nobody seemed to care about my existence sitting under a tree.
I could forget where I was for a while and relaxed and felt like being in a foreign country. Caribana Festival is always giving me good impression.

Korean Style Grilled Beef

Are you interested in learning korean style grilled beef?
You can replace beef with bacon part of pork called “Saam Gyup Sal”.

Korean style grilled beef is served with green onion salad, a mixture of bean paste and hot pepper paste called “Ssam Jaang”.You wrap it all up into a leaf of lettuce and pop it into your mouth. You can dip some pieces of cucumber and carrot into the spicy paste.

Gay Pride parade in Toronto was on Sunday June,24. I go every year and enjoy the parade and then the fun on Church street.

I’m looking forward to seeing “2007 Toronto Gay Pride Parade” that will start a few hours later. Last night, I browsed Gay town area, right downtown in Toronto. Enjoy some pictures I took. I feel tons of freedom whenever I see “Gay festival”. I’m not gay though : )

Picking some vegetbles in the park

Last week I went to a park to pick “Cham Namool”, Koreans’ favorite vegetable.
Canadians never know how tasty it is. While picking it, I noticed some bike riders stopped to watch with curiosity what we were doing.

My Korean friend Changhee took me to the place, her secret area. She said she has been picking the vegetables at this time of the year for years, and keeping it in her freezer and eating it until the next picking time comes. She didn’t tell anyone about the place, even her Korean other friends. So I must be a very special friend for her.

We know picking plants in the park is not legal, so if we get caught by police, we would get in trouble. A few years ago, my mother and her friends in LA went to pick some Korean vegetables one day. She had to leave before all the other old ladies because it was time for my sister to come home from work. Next day, my mother heard that all the old ladies got caught by a police officer and got penalty to participate in some education sessions for a while.

Once I saw the field on the corner of a wet area in the park, full of delicious vegetables, I couldn’t think about anything else except for picking. Equipment for this activity was only a thin rubber glove and a plastic bag.

I brought it home and cooked it. First I put it in hot boiling water for a few seconds and then rinsed it with cold water and squeezed it slightly to get rid of the water before mixing it with sauce. The sauce was made with bean paste, soy sauce, minced garlic, sesame oil and seeds.

Oh my, it was very delicious!

Freedom Festival in Toronto,2007

I went to see “Freedom festival” yesterday on May 5. I was very surprised to see it was for people smoking marijuana. The police didn’t bother them, but watched them from distance.

Some bands were playing and singing music. Some people were dancing very fast while the musicians were performing their music on the stage.
Some young people were wearing unique costume, Mohawk hair style,tattoos,smoking marijuana, and piercing on their body! They were totally celebrating the event without any interruption.

Interestingly, on the corner, some people were selling marijuana seeds for 5 for 20 dollars.

What a free country I’m living in now. I felt lots of freedom even though I don’t smoke marijuana.
