This week our Korean food fan is ChihYu from New York! The first Korean dish she ever had was seolleongtang (ox bone soup) at a Korean restaurant in Koreatown, NYC. Ever since then, she’s been really interested in learning how to make authentic Korean dishes at home.

Check out her photos! All look so delicious, well made, and creative! I’m very surprised at her gelatin gummy idea, I wish I could use the gummy as a jewel on my ring! Nice meeting you ChiYu! I’m sure we’ll meet someday here in New York!

ChihYu

What is your name and where do you live?
Hello, My name is ChihYu. I live in Brooklyn, NY with two little dogs and one man child, my husband. :))

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?
A friend of mine took me to a Korean restaurant – Gahm Mi Oak – in midtown NYC and that was the first time I tried Korean food. We had Seolleongtang and it was delicious!

Since then I’ve been searching for authentic korean food in NYC and have found more great restaurants in Flushing, Queens.

How often do you cook Korean food?
I’ve been watching Maangchi’s YouTube channel for years. My husband and I shop in HMart almost every other week and Maangchi’s recipes are great inspirations to us. In general, we cook Korean food every other week if not weekly.

What are your 3 favorite Korean dishes?
1. Seolleongtang
2. japchae
3. Soo Yook – thin steamed beef brisket w/ scallion!

What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on?
That would be the shredded chicken with Korean sweet potato starch noodle and Kimchi!
