This week our Korean food fan is Christian, who lives in The Netherlands. There seems to be many Korean food fans in that country!

What is your name and where do you live?

My name is Christian, but everyone calls me Chrissy or Chris. I live in the Netherlands, the water country of Europe. I often go grocery shopping on Friday to the Toko (Chinese market) to look for something to cook on Saturday or Sunday.

This year I discovered Maangchi’s website when I searched for kimchi. I adore kimchi so much, I often eat fresh-made kimchi. I want to discover more creative cooking of korean-food=3. I’m pleased to meet you Maangchi.

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?

Kimchi~ I love it i eat it, I smell it, very strong, sour sweet, bitter pickles=3
My first taste of kimchi was from a Chinese friend who called it ”pickled-sauce.” I searched it on the internet in 2010 and found kimchi.

I learned more on the Korean TV channel Arirang, a place with out commercials. In 2011 I order online a big pot of kimchi to try out, but it was very sour -_- so I almost gave up on kimchi, but the owner of Toko, Hu (Mr. Hu has 9 restaurants and 2 Tokos in the Netherlands, and he found me when I was talking with his personal chef. He was thinking: ”What is that boy doing in the kitchen?” but he listened to what i said, and hired me as call-help-cook-friend). I found pots with korean kimchi there, and it was magic on my tongue~

How often do you cook Korean food following my recipes?

I tried 2 recipes but they were really hard… I forgot to buy Hot pepper flakes, so I used hot paprika powder. It was a nice feeling mixing with the hands in the vegetables! My neighbor was wondering what I was making, when I finished my kimchi making, she asked if she could taste it. She really liked it=3 so i really thank Maangchi for it.

I am definitely going to try other recipes too^-^ oh I will keep watching for new videos, Maangchi^-^

Cold Ginger tea

Pan-fried tofu and kimchi

What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on when you make it?

Kimchi! 4 people have tried my kimchi and all they said it is delicious!
