This seaweed comes in a special shape, and a special wrapper, designed for making samgak-gimbap.
This little kit came with the mold and the seaweed

What you can do if you can’t find special seaweed for samgak kimbap is this:
Take the toasted laver you use for regular kimbap and cut in half.
Then you just wait to wrap it until just before eating. I usually wrap mine in a plastic wrap and carry the laver in another zip-lock bag with me. That’s how I do it for Onigiri (which is like the Japanese version of samgak kimbap, but sometimes it doesn’t have the seaweed) too.
It’s called Nori, or Sushi Nori in Japanese. When it’s pre-toasted, it’s called Yakinori or Yaki Sushi Nori. Sometimes I even buy packages of kim sometimes that are from Assi brand, but they have the Japanese name written in English Letters, and then they have Korean writing next to it.
Thank you for the good tips!
I have trouble finding seaweed for samgak kimbap as well..i tried 2 asian supermarkets already and both do not have it. They only have the type for regular kimbap and sushi..
there is another asian store but i don’t think i’ll have time to go there till after my exams..if i still can’t find them, looks like the chances of me trying to make samgak kimbap in belfast is quite bleak.. lol .. will have to wait till i return to malaysia XD
Hello! :) I have finally found this seaweed for triangle kimbap. After searching many supermarkets including the korean supermarket in kway in NYC I have found it in a Japanese specialty supermarket. It is a different brand but you’ll definitely know it is for triangle kimbap when you see it. I found it at sunrise mart. It is at
29 3rd Ave
(between 10th St & 2nd Ave)
New York, NY 10003.
There is 10 pieces for $4.29
Hope this helps!
Thank you very much for your helpful information. I find the kim (seaweed) for samgak kimbap is not sold in many grocery stores in New York. $4.29 for 10 pieces is too expensive though. I hope some Korean grocery stores sell a larger package (30 pieces- 50 pieces) for cheaper price!
I found these at in Koreatown tonight.
10 pieces plus a mold for $5.99.

My name Sandy. You can got one but not this brand on ebay that I post it on. Or you can contact me directly. At present I ship it from Thailand. My product got directly from the factory. It will be going into US market soon.
I was wondering if you ever found a place that sells the 삼각김밥용김. I also live in Fullerton but I can’t find any place that sells the 김 in the OC area.
Hi, I’m sure you could get the kim (seaweed) for samgakkimbap easily there. When you go to a Korean store, ask the sales clerk to find the ingredient for you. Or leave your question here. Someone else may know where to find it in your area. http://www.maangchi.com/talk/forum/where-to-buy-korean-cooking-ingredients
If you do a google search for triangle nigiri mold or triangle Onigiri mold or triangle rice ball mold you will be able to find them. Now I wish I could find the wrappers. lol! ^_^
I love watching your cooking show on youtube. I love Korean food so much. I was wondering about this seaweed wrap. If both sides are covered in plastic, when do you eat the seaweed?
Check my video recipe for samgak kimbap. I am showing how to make, how to eat it in the video.
I wanna get it too ! I’m from Singapore .
My name is Sandy. I live in Thailand and do online selling all kinds of seaweed type including the onigiri one that you’re looking for. The product from Factory in Korea to the factory in Thailand. It is the same one shown in the picture. If you’re finding it you can get it on eBay at present. I do post it there. All the product of mine I got them directly from The factory. So all are fresh. Or contact me directly at [email protected].
Hope I will have an opportunity to service u.
yeah, i couldn’t find this either! i’m in the washington dc area.
love your site, by the way!
I am not stalking you! But I’d like to know the store that you purchased these at? My sister is going to Manhattan in a few weeks and she promised to look for them if I told her where to find them! I have tried 5 Korean and Asian markets around here and no luck so far. I figured, why not get them from the source? (AKA- where Maangchi does!)
haha, actually I got it at a Korean store in Toronto, Canada. Anybody else knows about where to get it? Anyway, someone else left a comment under samgak kimbap recipe this morning and let us know where she got it.
