Mr. Adam Vance emailed me his interview answers and some photos of Korean dishes that he made and his family photos!  I will copy and paste his email after the interview because I like to share it with all of you. He has been such a passionate cook since he was very young. While reading his email, you will picture his farm house, family, homemade food, homemade bread made from whole wheat grains! I’m sure all of you would like to visit his house someday. So would I! Thank you, Adam! : )

1. What is your name and where do you live?
My name is Adam Vance and I live in Greenwood, Missouri (about 25 miles SE of Kansas City) in the farmer’s country!

2. What do you do and how many family members do you have ?
I work for the Department of Homeland Security. We are six in my family:  My wife, Patricia, my oldest 10-year old daughter Aitana, my 8-year old son Joshua, 6-year old daughter Emily and 3-year old daughter Lindsey!  (I call her Lindsey Baby).

Hi, Lindsey Baby!  I love your hat! : )

3. How often do you cook Korean food following my recipes?
Well, I just started a couple weeks ago, but for the last few days, I have been eating and or making your recipes almost on a daily basis.  If not, at least once or twice a week. I really enjoy how you show everything in your process like the way you smash the garlic before mincing it. Those little tips you show in your videos are very helpful to speed up the cooking process.

4.What are your favorite Korean dishes? Choose 3, please!
Bulgolgi, jajangmyun, spicy squid. (But this can change and it does!) :-)

Japchae (stir-fried noodles,vegetables, and meat)

kimchi

ojingeobokkeum (spicy stir-fried squid side dish)

5.What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on when you make it?
My entire family loves jajangmyun. The kids get it all over their faces and we have to clean them up just like you mother had to do to you! (I read about that!)

Here is the original email I got from from Adam, before I asked him to be interviewed:

“I am very grateful for you and the website you have put up. You are blessing the lives of others with your knowledge and kindness.  It’s neat to see your photos of your travels and how you make friends so quickly and reach out to others!

I used to live in Mexico and my wife is from Argentina so I speak Spanish and love the Spanish-speaking people!  It is neat to see your trips to Costa Rica and Guatemala. Such wonderful people, aren’t they?

I have always, since a young age, been interested in other cultures, languages and their foods. I took my first Chinese cooking class when I was about 11 years old at Oajimaya in downtown Seattle (I am originally from Washington State). Since then, I have had a passion to learn and cook other foreign dishes. My favorites have been Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, and Argentinean.

In our family, we make homemade, whole wheat bread. We have a wheat grinder and grind the wheat for fresh flour, and make delicious homemade loaves of fresh baked breads and give it out to our neighbors and friends from church. Everyone really enjoys it. In the summertime, the whole family goes picking blueberries on a farm and we make homemade blueberry jam and eat homemade bread with blueberry jam. I wish you were closer so we could make some for you and send it over!

I love living in Missouri. It’s nice to go back to Washington though, and visit my mom because in her town, Federal Way, WA, there is such a large population of Korean that you have no problem finding Korean items.  Ho Mart, a very large grocery store dedicated to mostly Korean food amongst some other items from other countries, is only a 2 minute drive from her house! It’s wonderful. Here in Missouri, we have to take a 30 minute drive to a Japanese/Korean grocer. It’s the only one I know of and a bit expensive but better than having nothing at all!

Well, that’s about all for now. Thanks again for all you do. It’s so neat to get to know you and learn the secrets of Korean recipes. Take care, Adios! Anyohaseo!“
