I interviewed another Korean food fan, Caroline! Her first taste of Korean food was when she was in 7th grade, visiting her best friend’s house. Ever since then, she has been very interested in Korean food. Let’s see how she got started cooking Korean food and take a look at the delicious Korean food she made. Her seaplant soup (miyeokguk) photo makes my mouth water. : )

What is your name and where do you live?
HELLLLLLLO! :) My name is Caroline, but you can call be ROLi for short! I’m a Chinese American, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?
I remember the first time I had my first taste of delicious Korean food was at my best friend’s house in junior high school, I was in 7th grade and around 11-12 years old. I knew her since i was 5 years old but never had the chance to try Korean food til much later.

I remember before I even had Korean food the very first thing I actually had shikhye (식혜) at her house, it was DELICIOUS and still my favorite to this day, and after that I ate some Banchan (반찬) with rice- I remember it was kimchi and kkakdugi.

How often do you cook Korean food following my recipes?
I’ve been going to a Korean church for almost 9 plus years, and every time I taste something I like I’ll go searching for it on your site :) So whenever I want to cook some yummy Korean food for my family, I’d use your recipes! I never go wrong with making delicious meals whenever I follow your recipes Maangchi :)

Soondubujjigae (Spicy soft tofu stew)

Manduguk (Dumpling soup)

Ojingeochaemuchim (Seasoned dried shredded squid)

Gamjachaebokkeum (Potato side dish)
Dorajimuchim (Seasoned bellflower roots)

What are your favorite Korean dishes? Choose 3, please!
Wow this was actually extremely hard for me to do! But here’s 3 I can’t live without!
I have to say my first one has to miyeokguk, whenever I have miyeokguk I think of my mama because she makes it too! I don’t know how but the Chinese miyeokguk she makes taste so similar to the Korean miyukguk, one time i made the Korean miyeokguk for her and she LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED it! :)

Miyeokguk (Seaplant soup)

Second it would be naengmyun, it holds a special place in my tummy :) SO REFRESHING! I love having it any season :)

Lastly LA 갈비! OMGEEEE I get it every time I go bbq! I’ve made it at home thanks to your recipe, THE TASTE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. love it! especially when I drink sikhye while eating galbi, goodness! *DROOLS

What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on when you make it?
The kimchi I made! Surprisingly the most labor intensive dish was the dish that was loved the most! I was very happy! She took a jar home with her and my brother in law also thoroughly enjoyed it! He said it tasted super authentic :)

Kimchi
