This time our Korean Food Fan is Lyra Quinn, a student in the UK.
The first time she made Korean food was at her father’s request, in Malaysia. She made kimchi for him, and he loved it. Now that she lives in the UK she can’t make kimchi for him anymore, but who knows? Maybe he’ll learn how to make it for himself!
What is your name and where do you live?
Hi, everyone! I’m Lyra, a student from Malaysia currently living in Edinburgh, UK. Studying Mathematical, Statistical and Actuarial Science in a university in Edinburgh.
Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?
Kimchi was the first Korean food I ever encountered, when my dad asked me to make some kimchi for him when I was living in Malaysia. That was my first time to make kimchi and my dad loves to serve it with hot steamed rice and side dishes!
How often do you cook Korean food following my recipes?
I always make Gimbap and put them into my lunchbox because the food in my university is too expensive! The most essential factor is I never get tired of it. There are so many ways to make the fillings and it’s so interesting! And for Kimchi, I always make one month’s worth so that I can always have a simple but delicious meals from it!

I love love love Japchae, it is so delicious not to mention it is very healthy too!! Gimbap is one of my favorite Korean dishes: with different fillings, you’re in business! The last but not least, Deokbokki! I like to add fishcakes and fried beancurd skin to it, YUMMY!!!!
What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on when you make it?
My family love the kimchi I make using your recipe. My dad and brother like to have a lot of Kimchi when we’re having dinner so it runs out pretty fast and my dad asks me to make more. But now that I’m living In Edinburgh I only have my boyfriend as my guinea pig, haha.
