This time our Korean Food Fan is Priscilla Udave.

I met Priscilla last week at the Korean food meetup & potluck. She came well-prepared to make grilled pork belly BBQ (samgyeopsal gui), with her own ice box, grill, ingredients, and equipment. The preparation was perfect: ssamjang, lettuce, green chili pepper, green onion salad, and even raw garlic. She grilled pork belly for everyone, until it ran out. She reminded me of Babette from the movie Babette’s Feast!

A full report of the meetup, with video is coming soon, but in the meantime let’s listen to Priscilla and hear about how she became interested in Korean food.

What is your name and where do you live?
Priscilla Udave. I live in Fontana, California

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?
Back in 2004 I went to my first Korean restaurant and I was upset that I had to cook my own food LOL! But then after the experience (which was fun), the taste of the food was so different, I loved it.

After that I tried more traditional Korean food dishes like bibimap and  I had the desire to learn how to make Korean food. I learned thru Maangchi’s recipes on youtube that it was so easy to make at home instead of having to drive all the way to koreatown in LA. Also most of my dishes are better tasting than what is in the restaurants, thanks to Maangchi :)

How often do you cook Korean food following my recipes?
Daily.

What are your favorite Korean dishes? Choose 3, please!
Samgyeopsal gui, Gaeranjim & Bibimbap

What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on when you make it?
Samgyeopsal – its easy to make, inexpensive, and people can arrange each bite to their own taste.
