This time our Korean Food Fan is Souavarat Seuasingnouane!

Some of you may already be familiar with his id: Souavarat, because he’s been sharing his delicious Korean food photos with on my website for a while, and finally he’s now featured here. Check out the the photo of him and his cousin with the onggi (earthenware pot)! They look so happy! I think his cousin Sanda must have been fed his amazing homemade Korean food at some point. He seems to love to share his food, and I can see his passion for Korean cooking.

He’s originally from Laos. I’ve traveled to northern Thailand twice, but I’ve never been to Laos. I heard Lao cuisine is also awesome, and I’m sure he could make some delicious Laotian dishes!

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?
The first time I tasted Korean food was when I was in Arkansas. I was 12 or 13 years old. A cousin of my mother’s was visiting us from Rhode Island and he brought with him big jars of baechu kimchi, oisobagi and kaktugi as gifts. He worked at a Japanese restaurant as a sushi chef and had Koreans friends who introduced him to Korean foods. One night he made for dinner LA galbi and bulgogi. It was my first taste of Korean dishes, and also kimchi and oisobagi. The flavors of the sweet and smoky grilled meats and the spicy sour kimchi was so fantastic! I have loved it ever since.
