For me the best bones are from the leg of the cow.

Did you bring your pot to a boil for 20 to 30 minutes then dump the water and wash the bones? This step gets rid of the blood.

If you did that then did you bring your bones to a boil and not a simmer? You need to boil them for a few hours. This pulls the marrow out of the bones.
