I ate here for the first time today. Glad I did the GamJatang – Pork Broth Stew, Haemul Pajeon – Seafood Pancake were really good. The kimchi was also good. As soon as they found I liked and knew about Korean food special banchan started coming out. The spicy buchu kimchi was very good.

WD Smoke BBQ in the H-Mart shopping plaza is also very good. I love there Nakji Bokkeum with Somen and the Soondae Bokkeum.

Chicken House Restaurant has good Dakgalbi.

Tree House Restaurant off Royal used to be good. But the last two times were not even close to the same.

Korea House on Royal has always been good but expensive.

Hi Alison!
I live in Denton too! I actually go to TWU! Czen is a small korean restaurant located in Denton and VERY CLOSE TO UNT (408 N Texas Blvd
Denton, TX 76201). It's kind of hard to find but worth the trip. They're actually a franchise of Czen in Hmart grocery store. The food is pretty good and affordable for the student budget! There are other places in Carrollton that are pretty good but I'll have to get the names of them from friends.

Hope it helps!

Howdy!

I was looking for Korean restaurants in North Texas and figured looking around the local H-Mart would be the best bet. I was right! I found Omi Korean Bar and Grill (2625 Old Denton Road Suite 326, Carrollton, TX 75007) and it is AMAZING! After living in South Korea for 6 months, I am very picky about my Korean food since it's so much more expensive here.

Omi is quite a large restaurant compared to the mom-and-pop shops i'm used to. It has a very diverse menu with great stews (best soondubujiggae i've ever had!) and ALL YOU CAN EAT korean bbq! For only $20 you can have unlimited bbq from samgyeopsal to LA Kalbi (definitely get this!) to chicken to many others that you cook at your own table. They also serve it with traditional egg dish and soup and a TON of amazing side-dishes (8+ sidedishes!)The only catch is your entire table has to order the bbq to get the deal.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the DFW area and especially to those who live close to the H-Mart. The staff is very helpful and kind and will help you with the bbq if you are a first-timer. The other dishes are around $8-12, which is expected for this quality and location.

I recently moved to Denton close to UNT campus. If anyone knows of any good Korean restaurants nearby please let me know!

Thanks!
Alison

The kimchi here is the best kimchi in town. Bar none, the best of any place that I have been to in Houston. I am not the only one who has said it about their kimchi. It's the best. Aside from the best kimchi, BEST KIMCHI, in town they have a great selection of Korean noodles, hence the name of the place, and it literally is a house, no joke. It's like your eating in some Korean grandmother's house. There are a few rice dishes and soups. The usual fare at a Korean restaurant. But not much of any banchan. You get a small ceramic pot of kimchi and that is it, with that being said, there is great food to be had here.

I always go for the bulgogi dolsot bibimbap (불고기돌솥 비빔밥). They did use to have the regular bibimbap with vegetables on top of the rice but they took it off the menu. The yukgaejang 육개장 is awesome as well. It is fiery red and super spicy, I love the broth, it is very savory and delicious and there are tons of vegetables and tender beef strips.

The noodles here are the knife cut noodles, kalguksu (칼국수) , I think is how you spell it and it's very delicious. Tender but chewy, toothsome noodles in various soups. I had the jjamppong (짬뽕). There is kimchi kalguksu. Mandu Kalguksu. And there are cold noodles too like bibimguksu (비빔국수) and mulnaengmyeon (물냉면) . There is also japchae (잡채).

Great food all around. I haven't had a bad dish here yet. So if you happen to be in the Spring Branch area in Houston definitely stop by Korean Noodle House, you won't be disappointed.

I've only been to a couple of Korean restaurants, but I really enjoy the food at Shila's. The banchan are always fresh and colorful, and the meat is tender and well seasoned. I usually go for dinner, and its pleasantly busy, but I've never had to wait for a table. The waitstaff is polite and prompt, and they have a good sense of timing.
If anyone is interested, its at the corner of Santa Fe Dr and Yadkin Rd. (right next to Sun Market, which is a nice Korean grocery store)

The "Korea Restaurant Kim" is not the only one in Leipzig. There are at least three. Actually, I didn't like it, because the waitress was not Korean but Thai or something similar not knowing anything about Korean food. I missed all the typical noodle dishes and I found that the menu seemed quite Chinese apart from Bibimbap, Bulgogi and some dishes with Kimchi.

I find that "Tobagi" in Leipzig, "Maru" in Dresden and "Mr. Lee" near Frankfurt/Main station or the one in Adalbertstrasse in Frankfurt are authentic and good Korean restaurants. Anyway, in and around Frankfurt are really a lot of Korean restaurants. I was told that the Koreans from Hyundai Frankfurt prefer the expensive restaurants around and not in the centre of Frankfurt.
However, I can speak only for cities I go frequently. I read also about good Korean restaurants in Berlin.

Oh man I want to get up to Palisades Park NJ. I live in West Chester, PA so I guess it wouldn't take too long to get there but is it really worth the drive? I currently only go to Upper Darby, PA which is about an hour away. I wonder why a good Korean restauranteur, wouldn't build one in a younger urban area?
I really think it'd be like Field of Dreams, Build it and they will come. Oh well, one of these days I'll get up to NJ to visit for some Good Korean BBQ.

This place is truly a gem in the Detroit area! Prior to visiting Korea with my boyfriend, my standards for Korean restaurants were not very stiff because I had no experiences with authentic food to compare it to. However, after realizing the true depth of flavor that should be present in Korean food, I have become a bit of a snob when it comes to Korean restaurants. New Seoul Garden serves wonderfully authentic food, and it is the first Korean restaurant that my boyfriend (a Korean national) couldn't stop raving about. It is a fairly large venue, and there have been large parties in a separate room many times I've visited. One of my favorite options that this restaurant provides is its tabletop grills. Aside from the fact that I was sitting in a booth, I could have sworn I was back in Korea at one of the restaurants I visited with my bf's family. You can chose from various grilled dishes (I've had bulgogi numerous times), and you cook them yourself atop a Korean style grill plate. You are served plenty of side dishes with your meal, and I have never left hungry. The one downside to this restaurant is that it is a bit pricey for a my college budget. Expect to pay anywhere from 10-35 for a meal (Kimchi jjigae or Kimbap is around $10 and the tabletop grill dinners are all over $20-bulgogi being the cheapest). Also, you have to try their seafood pancake appetizer at least once if you like that kind of food. It's huge and delicious, and I get it every time I visit with friends/family. This restaurant is definitely worth the drive and the money spent, and it is the ONLY Korean restaurant I would ever dare to take my future in-laws to when they visit the US. I hope you can give it a try and enjoy it as much as I do!

One of my mom and my favorite Korean sushi restaurants. Excellent prices and lots of food. One warning...the food is Korean level spicy. I took a friend there once, and the spicy tuna roll just about knocked her out and had her in tears. Great sashimi, fantastic banchan, and really good pumpkin porridge.

Here's some pics from our last dinner:

Last night, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining in Mandu, in Washington DC. The restaurant we ate in was on 1805 18th St, in a quaint, but rather modern upscale setting. We sat and ordered several appetizers (we tried the house Mandu with pork and beef, the pajeon, and the san jeok snack). Afterwards, we shared a portion of their kalbi and one of their pulgogi. Ban chan was of course served with our main course; they offered us a very delicious selection of several kimchis which we ate with gusto. The waitress was quite generous with refilling our helpings and i believe that we went through 3-4 servings!

Overall, I was really very pleased with the restaurant. The food was very good. One dish we really were impressed by was the pajeon; while the servings were small by traditional standards, they really were able to get a very nice, crisp structure to these mini pancakes. Really very delicious!

I think as well that the marinade for the meat was extremely well executed. It was more suttle than perhaps other Korean BBQ houses would produce, but it really was delicious and I had a hard time to stop eating!

As well, I think that the service there was really great. The waitress was really cute, very bubbly and fun and was very good about attending to our needs.

As an alternative to travelling 40 plus minutes out to Annandale or Vienna VA for Korean food in the Washington DC area, I would recommend this restaurant to those that are interested in tasting really good, fresh Korean food, with an upscale twist, while also dining in a casual atmosphere. While I'd say that everything wasn't 100% traditional (vegetables served with the meat for ex. were delicious, but not what one normally expects), I think Mandu brings a fresh feel to Korean food that is approachable by Korean clientele and Western clientele.

One drawback for the restaurant was the price of some items on the menu. We drank a bottle of San Soju with our meal that cost us $18. I feel that's pretty strong, especially in comparison to prices in the Annandale area for the same soju. Meals however for downtown Washington were moderately priced and if I were to say whether I thought they were worth the ending bill, I'd have to say, we were left satisfied.

So, please, if you're in Washington and get a craving for Korean, but don't want to trek to the Northern VA area, try Mandu!

It's worth the trip to do so!

There are about a handful of Korean restaurants in the OKC Metro. Most of them are located in Del City right by Tinker Air Force Base. I have not tried all of them yet but here's my review on the ones I have tried.

B-WON = This restaurant includes table top cooking, daily lunch specials, and regular menu ordering. They tend to be stingy with banchan (side dishes), but with Oklahoma being (in my opinion) behind in cultural diversity, a lot of the banchan probably goes to waste. They usually only have one person on wait staff during dinner so if its busy when you go, be prepared to wait especially for drink refills. But bottom line, food is good.

Seoul Garden = This is usually my go to place. It's cheap and really down to earth. The ahjjamah who owns the place is a real sweetheart too. She doesn't have a full on menu but enough to satisfy a craving. Each meal comes with a free appetizer of small chicken chunks in sweet & sour sauce along with a small eggroll. Her bulgogi eggrolls are awesome! My mom doesn't like this restaurant as much as she calls it "too country" than what she is accustomed to. Right next to this place is a Korean grocery market with a small eat in place inside that offers jajjangmyun or jjambong. Those are really good.

Korean House = I used to go here a lot because their table top cook was pretty good and they offered "requent eater" cards that you can rack up points on to get free meals. However, I stopped going here because they started charging for every little thing. TO GO orders are $0.50 more, i guess to pay for the box? Also, the cleanliness of the place just went downhill. I once ordered 3 full meals to go once for 3 different people. They only gave enough banchan for one person! Seriously, like two little chunks of potato jjorim for everyone.

New York, NY

My husband, 5 year old and myself found this little place by chance while in NYC. We loved it! My husband (who is Korean and I am not) is NOT that adventurous - so unfortunately I didn't get to try some of the things I wanted to. He tends to stick to bulgogi & jap chae ..... I wanted to try the tongue - but no luck! The banchans were yummy.

I couldn't get enough of the ojinguh che (오징어채 볶음). I ate it like candy - and asked for a second dish!

I've since made it at home .... although I didn't quite get it the way the restaurant did - it was still yummy! (I'll see if I can attach a photo of mine)

Anyone else tried this place - Kunjip Restaurant in NYC?

Thanks.

It's a small Korean restaurant in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a buffet. Really good choice of side dishes, like baechu kimchi, oisobagi, seaplant salad, mustard green pickle, spicy tofu (dubu buchim), kimbap, Kkakdugi(radish kimchi), kongnamul muchim (soybean sprout side dish), kongnamulguk (soybean sprout soup), Sigeumchi namul (spinach side dish), Gyeran malyee (rolled omelet), bulgogi, Doejibulgogi(spicy pork), L.A. galbi, bap.

Really good selection of traditional dishes. Very good and cheap, all you can eat buffet, and very reasonable price. If you are ever in Tulsa, give it a try.

This is our most frequented Korean restaurant. It is located in the shopping center with a Super Hmart, a very large Korean/asian grocery store. The stew here are fantastic and they also have indoor bbq for those of you who enjoy cooking your meat at the table. Sushi also available as well. We enjoy a nice lunch or dinner here before we hit the market to stock up on Korean banchan.
