World is ready for real Bo Ssam!

Ever since Korean cuisine became hot touch to foodie's palates by the clever fusion food I couldn't have been more grateful by many chefs work that have been contributed to increase appreciation for Korean food in US. Right now, Korean food is noble item in many restaurant menu and it is slowly taking a certain identity that shapes stereotype as people recognize repetition of "something similar to Kimchi and Kalbi". My friends already find difficulty in distinguishing unique flavor and ingredients among other Asian food when we are sitting in a "Asian fusion restaurant" where the blinded taste is only guided by the marking of dish's nationality written on the menu.

Bo Ssam is easy to eat because of its great taste but complex enough to understand how different ingredient come into a balance. The uniqueness in Korean cooking method and the combination of ingredients gathered from mountain, plain, and ocean is simply shocking to anyone who tries it for the first time. Who thought of eating raw oyster, boiled-to-lean pork, and fresh made Kimchi together? Whoever it is, I thank for his/her fine taste.

Yes, I am ready for a bite, and may be share with some friends too. Please show us your way Maangchi Unni.

This suggestion is inspired by reading about "a pork dish" that takes alias of Bo Ssam. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/15/magazine/the-bo-ssam-miracle.html?_r=1

I just bought some "jab gok bap," which I think is the name for this amazing mix of rice, beans and grains. What I have is Assi brand and it's called Mixed Grains in English.

I tried cooking it from one recipe I found, but it turned out a smushed-up mess. Tasty, but very unattractive to look at. Yikes! You are supposed to soak it for a long time first, then cook it ... but that's where I think I went wrong, in the timing.

The package says to use a rice cooker, but it doesn't give any proportions for grain to water or times or settings, etc.. I don't have a rice cooker right now, though I will probably be getting one soon.

I would love to be able to cook this so it doesn't get all mushy. Is that possible? Several of the recipes I found added water chestnuts and dates and other sweets. Not really my favorite way to go, but I will try it at least once if there is some authentic Korean way to serve it.

Thanks!

Please help. A few of my sons college roommates are both Korean and Chinese. Since they are out on their own I've introduced them to your site and they inturn have introduced it to their mothers and sisters :). One of the young men made a Korean barbecue at our house in September and it gave me the idea of finally using the beautiful Korean Hot Pot my in-laws gave me. I want to do a simple test of the recipe before I have them over. Unfortunately we can't cook fish in out Hot Pot because my husband is allergic. I've looked at your site but have not been able to find a recipe. Thank you

Hey everyone!

At my favorite Korean restaurant, there's a dish called Tofu Kimchi Samgyupsal. I feel it's a creation of this very restaurant, as I haven't seen the recipe anywhere, nevertheless it's extremely delicious and unique in taste.

I feel it's just a mixture of kimchi and something similar to Doejibulgogi (simply called samgyupsal at the restaurant, but it's marinated spicily) and heated up.

The warm kimchi together with the pork make an exquisit and extraordinary mixture. Alongside goes simple tofu.

I wonder if any of you have come across this very dish and if there's a recipe for it? (unless it's really just kimchi and Doejibulgogi mixed up :D)

I watched Family Outing recently and just drooled at the sight of what they made, some Beef Rib in a thick rich sauce. It was the episode with Nicole from KARA and Tiffany from SNSD. It just seems like something that would be unbelievably delicious. Anyways, here's the youtube link for the episode. The food I'm talking about is around 1:18:45. I don't see it already requested but that might be because I don't know the korean name. But anyways, thanks for sharing all your recipes, gives me something to do during winter break :). A man's got to learn how to cook!
