This place is truly a gem in the Detroit area! Prior to visiting Korea with my boyfriend, my standards for Korean restaurants were not very stiff because I had no experiences with authentic food to compare it to. However, after realizing the true depth of flavor that should be present in Korean food, I have become a bit of a snob when it comes to Korean restaurants. New Seoul Garden serves wonderfully authentic food, and it is the first Korean restaurant that my boyfriend (a Korean national) couldn’t stop raving about. It is a fairly large venue, and there have been large parties in a separate room many times I’ve visited. One of my favorite options that this restaurant provides is its tabletop grills. Aside from the fact that I was sitting in a booth, I could have sworn I was back in Korea at one of the restaurants I visited with my bf’s family. You can chose from various grilled dishes (I’ve had bulgogi numerous times), and you cook them yourself atop a Korean style grill plate. You are served plenty of side dishes with your meal, and I have never left hungry. The one downside to this restaurant is that it is a bit pricey for a my college budget. Expect to pay anywhere from 10-35 for a meal (Kimchi jjigae or Kimbap is around $10 and the tabletop grill dinners are all over $20-bulgogi being the cheapest). Also, you have to try their seafood pancake appetizer at least once if you like that kind of food. It’s huge and delicious, and I get it every time I visit with friends/family. This restaurant is definitely worth the drive and the money spent, and it is the ONLY Korean restaurant I would ever dare to take my future in-laws to when they visit the US. I hope you can give it a try and enjoy it as much as I do!
