This is a bit old, but it’s the first I heard about it: the Topokki Food Research Institute (TFRI) wants to rename the food and make it more popular globally, with $530,000 in funding:

Oh my. I love goongjoong duk boki. My mom is the master at making them :)
You guys should try the recipe out! Very different and good in its own way.
Ddeokbokki is one of the unique korean foods as there is no other food like it and is simple to make. There are also endless possibilities with tasteless but chewy rice cakes. Thats why they are trying to globalize it.
Hope it gets popular like sushi :p
