Hi all! I’ve really been enjoying Maangchi’s recipes, and I just ordered some dukkbaegi, and I’m really excited! People talk about seasoning them so that liquids don’t seep out of the bottom of the pot. I can’t find instructions for anything but dotsol seasoning, though. Can anyone tell me how this is done? Also, do I need to wet my ddukbaegi every time I use it before applying heat?

      Thanks, y’all! :)

I made samgyetang and had not seasoned it and it didn’t leak. I heard that you’re always supposed to have something in it, like liquid, before you turn on the heat. I have a gas stove and I don’t know what would happen with an electric stove.

Thank you! Have you done bibimbap or anything? Probably OK as long as I put sesame oil first, do you think?

I would think so, although I’m new at this! I think Maangchi said somewhere to heat it up with a little water in it. You don’t want it to break. I would start out with a medium flame, not high. Just my thinking.

I have a few of them and they never leak. I didn’t do anything to season them. I always heat them with something in them, a little oil or stock, over low heat until the rim of the pot is warm to the touch, then I crank up the gas. They are so great! Pot and dish all in one. Less dishes to wash, right? And in winter, when my apartment is freezing cold, I can enjoy hot soup from start to finish. You will be so glad you got your earthenware pot. Its a fantastic invention. Thanks for bringing up the subject. It made me rekindle my love for earthenware!
