Hi,
I am planning to buy hot pepper flakes for making kimchi https://www.maangchi.com/ingredient/hot-pepper-flakes
Can somebody tell me how much does one cup of Korean hot pepper flakes weight? Of course more or less. I have no idea and for the first time I do not want to buy a huge packaging. Thanks in advance! :) - June 12, 2015 at 7:45 pm #62302EvilGrinParticipant

Ok, I could not resist the temptation to scoop out a cup (240 ml) of red pepper powder and weight it — 100g / 3.6 oz.
As Evilgrin mentions — buy red pepper powder that has a picture of kimchi on it. It is ground to the size used for making kimchi. That is the kind of pepper powder I weight. A finer grind of red pepper powder will probably weight more.

Thanks a llt for checking that for me! I actually already bought small portion of the peppers and it’s actually exactly 100 g! I will be making kimchi this weekend :) - June 20, 2015 at 4:45 pm #62540EvilGrinParticipant
I really like these Assi brand coarse flakes. I use it for tons of stuff. Its mild enough that if you use a little too much it wont light your head on fire and ruin the dish.
I just used some today mixed with a roasted pineapple sauce on country style ribs.
