Hi,
so this weekend I made my first ever batch of (emergency) kimchi and it was delicious.
That being said I had a few troubles getting the ingredients, unfortunately my asia store didn’t have the korean red pepper flakes. (They had one pack but it was expired!) So I bought “Chili Flocken” from Fuchs, which you get in any normal german supermarket, a 60g bag for ca 3€. Since I had no idea how this would turn out, I only used HALF the amount of what Maanghie’s recipe called for (half of a 1/3 cup)!!
As I’ve said, it turned out fine. So in a kimchi emergency in Germany you can use those Chili Flocken and you’ll only need half of what the recipe calls for. Which is practical considering the price. ;)
Enjoy.
Thank you very much for posting your tips here! It will be a big help for those who can’t buy hot pepper flakes in Germany!
