      Hi everyone!

So, basically, my favourite dishes are bibimbap and bulgogi (I’m new to this site and have yet to ever cook Korean food, just stuff I’ve had at restaurants — going to try my own kimchi this weekend!). However, I live with my Indian in-laws, and as strict Hindus I cannot bring beef into the house (in any form, no broth, meat, seasonings, anything. The dog food can’t even have beef in it) and so…. could I substitute pork into Maangchi’s recipes for these dishes? Obviously for the bibimbap the pork would have to be fully cooked not put on raw. Or would I need to change the marinades as well?

As well I’m going to be in Mississauga next week, and am looking into buying an onggi and one of those earthenware bowls Maangchi uses for the bibimbap. Metal chopsticks and spoons as well! Anyone know any good stores that have good quality products and decent prices?

      Thanks everyone!!

Don’t be afraid to try pork instead of beef. Key point for bulgogi is thinly sliced across the grain… so it is easy to chew…. anything in a lettuce wrap is good!
Bibambap is meant to use up leftovers, so again, anything goes. THey fun part is taking the time to make the presentation nice….. with colors and separating the ingredients like slices of a pie on top of the rice.
I suggest getting a really big clay pot because I always end up overfilling mine and dumping it into a steel pot. I got the one that seems like it is a quart/liter….I just measured, and filling it a quart leaves an inch left for the boiling.
