Maangchi Meetup

By Maangchi

I met my blog readers on Saturday afternoon, July 26. All eight members got together and had a great picnic. I was surprised that they recognized my face quickly. “Hey, Maangchi!” that’s the first sentence when they saw me. I took off my sunglasses to show my face so that they could find me easily. I was standing at our appointment place next to the fountain in Bryant Park.

I’m posting some photos here with their permission. It was such a pleasant time

During the meeting, our conversation kept going on. It never stopped! About what did we talk? Of course, we talked about Korean food again even though we were eating delicious Korean food at the moment. We had su jung gwa, gimbap, mandu, kimchi, and rice cake! Someone brought a bottle of wine and we could say “Cheers”!

  1. Hi Maangchi,

Thank you so much for detailed recipe! :) Wow, I didn’t know if seasoning was needed – I’m glad I asked. I watched your “kimbap” video, and I’m going to Korean market tomorrow to get all the ingredients. Thanks again for responding to my request.

    gabieolie,
sorry, I should have explained more detailed process for the filling in the previous message.

    Here you go,

    *danmuji (yellow pickled radish)
    Cut it into strips.
    *Crabmeat:
Heat it in the microwave oven for 1 minute before using. I use the whole 1 stick of crabmeat for 1 roll of kimbap.

    *Carrot
Cut it into narrow and fine sticks and sprinkle some salt. 5 minutes later, cook it in the microwave oven for 1 minute, then add some sesame oil

    *Cucumber
Cut it into long sticks and sprinkle some salt. 5 minutes later, dry the liquid from the cucumber with paper towel or cotton cloth.

    *fish cake
Cut it into long sticks and put them into a heated pan with a little bit of vegetable oil and stir them. Then add a little bit of soy sauce (very little) and sugar.

Thank you for your interest in the recipe!

  3. Hi Maagchi,
Do you season the ingredients like the cucumber, carrot and fish cake before putting them in the kimbap or do you just use them raw? Thanks!

    gabieolie,
I have already posted my kimbap video before.

This kimbap that I made for “maangchi meetup” uses the same recipe as the one that I posted before.

Only difference is what to put filling inside kimbap. i used carrot, yellow pickled radish (dan mu ji), fish cake, cucumber, and crabmeat. I sometimes use ground beef, too.

  5. Hi Maangchi, that kimbap looks so good! Could you please post the recipe with the ingredients you mentioned on the video? Thank you!!!

    Vickie,
I wish I could meet you, too!

Yes, the kimchi turned out good. I made it in very easy way this time by cutting all ingredients into bite size before salting.

I used napa cabbage, green onions, and mustard green. I love mustard green kimchi. Next time I will post the recipe on my blog.

    Thank you!

  11. The photo of the kimchi makes my mouth water, it looks real good. I’m glad you all had a fun time at the party. Wish I lived closer.
