This time our Korean Food Fan is fashionable Kristofer! His Korean palate was originally set by his Korean stepmom, but now he cooks many delicious Korean dishes on his own. He’s the founder of 500 Tasty Sandwiches.

What is your name and where do you live?
My name is Kristofer. I divide my time between Jersey City, NJ and a farmhouse in Sullivan County, NY

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?
The second best thing to having a Korean mom is having a Korean step-mom. Through her I had the opportunity to taste unique dishes beyond kimchi/bulgolgi/bibimbap at a young age.

How often do you cook Korean food following my recipes?
I’m not a recipe person. However, recipes are great inspiration. I love finding delicious Maangchi recipes and substituting seasonal ingredients or putting my own twist on them based on my own culinary history.

What are your favorite Korean dishes? Choose 3, please!
My favorite dishes happen to be some of the simplest, most delicious ones:

Yangnyeom Dobu (양념 두부)
Sundubu Jjigae (순두부찌개)
Oi-Sobagi (오이소박이)

What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on when you make it?
Everyone loves my Korean deviled eggs. While I love to prepare traditional dishes using classic techniques and ingredients this is a fantastic East-meets-West dish.

Bindaetteok
Korean Mung Bean Pancakes | Bindaetteok (빈대떡)

Korean Deviled Eggs

Korean Seasoned Tofu | Yangnyom Dobu (양념 두부)
