This week our Korean food fan is Savannah Sauvé from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec. She’s been sharing her photos of delicious homemade korean food on my website for a while now. Her kimchi photos look amazing!

What is your name and where do you live?

My name is Savannah and I live in Valleyfield, a town near Montréal

Tell me about the first time you ever tasted Korean food. Where were you, and what did you eat?

Well I am a really big fan of korean drama and variety shows so it started that way, and in my town you have to drive more than an 1 hour to go to really good Korean restaurant (and i don’t have a car so..).

And I remember literally CRAVING korean food like so badly lol and I didn’t really want to go to a restaurant and then I found Maangchi’s video when I was searching for a Korean kimchi recipe and I was like woww with her directions I’m sure I can do this!

I went to a Korean grocery store and bought like $200 of stuff. My first try at Korean food technically was a green onions pancake but I made it really quickly and it was a little bit soggy so it was that good. The next day I started my kimchi adventure ahah I made tongbaechu-kimchi and kakkdugi and on the same day Tteokbokki (that I weirdly didn’t like, though it looked mouthwatering) and I totally fell in love with kimchi!!!!

How often do you cook Korean food?

When I have all the ingredients I’d say few times a week but since I don’t have a car I can’t go to the korean grocery store whenever I want, so these day’s I don’t really cook it that often because I finished most of the ingredients I bought. I’m going shopping again in 3 weeks and then I’m going to cook korean food every day ahahah…

What are your 3 favorite Korean dishes?

I have to choose only 3 ? wow ok ehm Kimchi sundubu jigae – love it :O All kinds of kimchi, and all kinds of side dishes like spicy cucumber side dish, soybean sprouts side dish etc.. I haven’t tried that many yet, so for now I’d say those are my faves!!

What’s your best Korean dish, the one that everybody compliments you on?

Well I’d say my kimchi, both kakkdugi and tongbaechu-kimchi, and wierdly i’ve been complimented on my tteokbokki even though I didn’t like it (I remember coughing so badly with just a finger tasting lol it surprised me so bad with the spicyness I almost got a heart attack ahahah). Maybe I’ll try it again, this time knowing how spicy it is!
