Bungeoppang or Boongeoppang

First successful attempt at boongeoppang! The first time I tried I think the heat was not hot enough. I tried with a portable electric burner. But this time I just went ahead and put the iron on my glass top burner. I had to turn up the heat a little, but all stoves are different!

Couldn’t help but run a few boongeoppangs to our local Beauty Supply shop that is owned by Korean folks. They loved them. Tonight we will take some to taekwondo.

The recipe for Bungeoppang – Boongeoppang (붕어빵) – Fish Shaped Bread with Red Bean Filling is here!

Kwanjangnim loved them! It was the first time he had boongeoppang in a long time. We got everything ready for class, took the boongeoppang off the hot iron and jumped in the car. It was still hot when we got to class.

Can you guess what he bit into first? The head, of course! We said, “You bit the head! That means you’re a leader!” He laughed very hard with his head tossed back and said, “I did not know this!” :)

I’m so glad you posted this recipe. I know this is a special food and we cannot buy these irons around here (unless it’s online). So it’s even more special to make this.

Thanks again! Maybe at the next taekwondo cookout we will make them fresh right there so others can eat them nice and crispy.
