      Hi guys,

I’ll be getting my gallbladder removed soon ( first week of August!) and I’m really not looking forward to it. I wanted to know what Korean foods I can prepare ahead of time in order to recover quickly from my surgery. I know I won’t be able to eat greasy, fatty or fried foods. Any suggestions? I plan to make a huge pot of Miyuk Guk- minus the beef!

Protein will help you heal. So, try to stick with a higher protein, lower fat until you’re instructed by your surgeon otherwise. Korean food isn’t generally that fatty. So, for the first few days, you might want to start with smaller, more frequent portions of lighter foods: chicken, porridge, eggs, rice, fish, mul neng myun, Then slowly up the spice and other seasonings as you recover: kimchi, jiggaes, Galbi, bulgogi and such.

I recommend that seaweed soup, kimchi, and Pumpkin Porridge is the best foods to recover from surgery.
