Can you help? For Christmas I’m going to give my in-laws a Korean cooking starter kit, and some recipes. I have a list of items in mind, but I’d like some suggestions from the community. I live in Sweden and there few fresh ingredients available, so I’m limited to things that store a long time. What are your suggestions for both ingredients and recipes? Thanks for the help.

      Rough list:
      – Maangchi’s book (there’s a list, too!)
      – Gochujang
      – Doenjang
      – Roasted Sesame-oil
      – Korean Soy-sauce
      – Sesame-seeds
      – Fresh Ginger (keeps very good in the fridge – years even! You may freeze it, too)
      – Leek with roots (keeps longer than Spring Onions, but they keep well with roots and in sand at room temperature, too)
      – Garlic
      – Onions
      – neutral Cooking-oil
      – Radishes
      – Chinese cabbage
      (and/or self-made Kimchi)

      – Dried Kelp
      – Dried Anchovies, different sizes
      – Nori
      – Dried Seaweed
      – canned Tuna

        …and short-grain rice, of course!

        Gochugaru would be nice, too…

Sorry; of course I forget to mention some of the stuff that I’m used to…

Sanne, thanks for the help! That was about the list I had too, but I hadn’t thought about anchovies. Swedes love preserved fish, so it’s a good one.

        You’re welcome!
Btw: I ordered a whole salmon for Thursday today and will make Gravlax, hoe (tail, belly, flesh from the bones and near the head) and meuntang (head and bones) from it. Not the first time…
