I first encountered Korean food in college when I lived in a dorm with several students from Korea and a few Korean-Americans. Many evenings they’d eschew the school’s cafeteria offerings, choosing instead to gather and share rice or noodles, homemade kimchi one of their mothers sent them by the gallon, and canned tuna. The smells, not always pleasant, wafted down the hall and filled me with curiosity. They were always happy the share samples, being filled with pride for their food and homeland.

Anyway, I just discovered Maangchi a week ago on YouTube and have watched dozens of her videos and already made three or four of her recipes. Her book just arrived in the mail today and I’m excited to try most, if not all, the recipes in it.
