I love all these fantastic recipes! I was adopted from Seoul Korea and I want to know everything about Korean cuisine, especially how to eat it. I remember the first time I ordered ginseng chicken soup and I thought to myself that this looked like the most basic and boring thing I’ve ever seen; A whole chicken floating in hot water. I had no idea there was rice and ginseng inside.

I go to my favorite Korean restaurant, Sokongdong Tofu at least once a month with one of my best friends. We love ordering a combo that comes with soon soup and a grilled meat. It also comes with rice in a stone pot and an egg on the side.

So, what do I do with the egg? Do I just crack it into the soup and stir it right away or do I let it sit and poach? Also, I heard that if you eat all the rice but leave the crispy stuff on the bottom of the stone pot, the server will bring you hot water to poor over the crispy rice. I guess this is when you put the top on and let it sit for awhile to make “tea”.

Please explain anything and everything about this! I would love to know.

      Thanks,
      Joseph

Hello! I am a fan of Korean food without ever having been there. I had the chance to eat in different Korean restaurants in Italy but that’s about all, apart from making delicious food on my own.
So this is why I can reply only your last question about rice, ‘burnt’ rice and rice tea, some time ago Maangchi posted an exhaustive video here https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/rice
      Enjoy!
