Hello! I’ve been lurking the website and using several of Maangchi’s recipes and never registered/logged in. First time poster!

Hello David in NJ! I live in Nor Cal, in the Valley where they aren’t very many (any) Korean restaurants. I’ve made Maangchi’s cold cucumber soup, egg side dish, potato side dish, dduk gook, bulgogi,…wow! it’s more than I thought! I used to eat out for Korean food a lot but not only was it getting expensive, I had to travel 30-60 minutes to get there. I am Korean American and grew up with Korean food and miss it – so I’m saving money by making it myself!

      How about yourself?

For me it all started with my obsession with sushi about 20 years ago. This is well before sushi was mainstreame like today… I used to bring dates to Japanese restaurant but not so much for the food but just knowing we would get server boozz I being under 21 ie. Mai Tai and zombies and I remember a flaming pineapple… ah the late 80’s …..sorry

After trying sushi a few times I was and still hooked on raw fish. So I have eaten sushi at least 3 times a month for the last 20 years.

I started going to a different sushi bar that happened to be in a Korean restaurant. Bing an old school raw fish pro that I am. I would try to chat with the Sushi Chef he is Korean…. sometimes goofing on the other customers that had poor sushi etiquette or if I saw an error he had made (sushi roll not cut perfectly straight ) I might say is that I new style .

We have become very good friends …golfing, fishing, restaurant and bar hopping and coming to my house for an Italian feast (my wife is an amazing cook) my kids birthday parties …even live octopus eating

Sorry to hear not to many Korean restaurants in your area … Good thing we have Maagchi’s Videos to guide us.

My wife thinks I crazy when I make one of Maagchi’s dishes and then bring it down to the Korean restaurant for the staff to sample and judge

      Keep in touch

      David
