Hi,
I’m travelling to Seoul in March and I was hoping for some advice/guidance on where to eat and what to avoid as I am allergic to peanuts and peanut oil.
Is it common to use peanut oil in street food? I really want to try hotteok. And of course is it safe to eat the fried chicken?
Any tips/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Try traditional Korean dishes such as bibimbap (a rice bowl dish) or japchae (stir-fried noodles) which typically do not contain peanuts.
When dining at restaurants, it is a good idea to inform the server about your peanut allergy in advance to ensure that the kitchen takes necessary precautions.

Absolutely! There is so much delicious food in Seoul and lots of it doesn’t use peanuts or peanut oil. The street vendors are generally great for pointing out what is free from allergenic ingredients so just make sure to have a good look at the ingredients before buying. Hotteok is super popular and definitely worth trying – it’s usually not made with any peanuts or peanut oil either! Fried chicken is a staple in Seoul – so don’t miss out – it’s totally safe to eat!
