I can’t seem to find Perilla leaves anywhere. Can it be substituted with something else when making Dak-galbi?
Important question I can’t buy it where I live. I will try to add some fresh Peppermint and later some fresh Basil 5 minutes before serving. Basil loses taste of you cook it too long.
I live in the heart of a city and people have never even heard of perilla leaves but I’ve found some in Korean stores, even there, it’s not always available esp. during out of season. Many Koreans grow their own, and apparently it’s easy to grow, even in container. They cooked them in large quantities and store them in cellar for cool weather seasons. Also I’ve ordered some through Internet: expensive for sure, from Etsy and Amazon. Good luck.
