Hello! I would really, really love to make samgyetang, but jujube and ginseng are hard to get in the Philippines, particularly in the city I come from, Baguio. We have a significant Korean population, and although Korean stores and supermarkets are found all over, I cannot find these two ingredients in these stores. I know jujube and samgyetang are the crucial ingredients of the dish, so I am not sure if substitutes will work; though, I can settle for the next best thing for now. I am just dying to cook and eat this dish!
Thanks for the help! =)
I think apple might be a substitute for jujube. I would error toward tart, not sweet apple, but preferably somewhere between those two. This is the season for jujube and I buy them and eat them like apples.
I do not know of any substitute for ginseng — I have never eaten it.
Thank you for the reply =) Will try to do that. =)
