I think your father is talking about “jangajji” which just means pickles. Here is a forum article here talking about the specific thing you want (radish pickle):
And here is Maangchi’s recipe that you can adapt to use radish instead:
This is what it looks like when it is commercially produced:
JamieFMemberI had the same situation Helen – I went there a long time ago but didn’t really try any unique Korean food. Maangchi (many years later) showed me how amazing it is with her videos :)
JamieFMemberstanford you are in for a treat then – because there was a LOT of that :)
JamieFMemberstanford it isn’t incredibly bland but it doesn’t pack the punch that so much other Korean food does.
JamieFMemberThanks mokpochica :) It was a really awesome holiday. I have lots more pics and stories to share!

Summer is coming so I will be making gochujang too.
JamieFMemberThanks everyone :) I will hopefully have lots of pictures and even some videos!
JamieFMemberAustralian Masterchef (Season 3 Episode 43) had a mystery box which was Korean ingredients – it aired last night I believe. I haven’t watched it yet to see what they come up with but when they were asked who had cooked with Korean ingredients before, only one contestant put up his hand.
JamieFMemberDefinitely the egg side dish – everyone loves it: https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/egg-side-dishes
JamieFMemberbutter2ify – if you need the recipe urgently there is one in the cookbook “Growing Up in a Korean Kitchen”. But if you are happy to wait, hopefully Maangchi will post her own as I would prefer to use that too :)

JamieFMemberHi Maangchi – what happened to the recipe you posted at the bottom here? It takes me to the main forums page and I was hoping to find a recipe for dakbal
JamieFMemberI would just like to revive this by saying that I, too, would love to see a recipe for baek kimchi :)
JamieFMemberdorkielala – I know you asked two years ago, but if you are still reading you can find onngi (the clay pots) on http://english.gmarket.co.kr – they sell everything you can’t get outside of Korea and have been very reliable for me – I have bought a sinseollo pan from there, dasik molds, yukgwa molds, and a set of brass royal chopstick/spoon sets – all arrived in NZ in perfect condition and well wrapped.
