In November 2023, I will be 70 years old, and I have been cooking and eating Korean food for most of my life. I have been widowed twice. My first husband was Korean, who blessed me with my first bowl of kimchi and rice. At first, the smell put me off. But my husband was very persistent, So I tried it. I had 2 bowls. :) My last husband was British, and I lived in England with him for 12 years, until he passed away. Finding stores to buy kimchi in the English countryside were few and far between. Leaving my house and contents behind, I returned to the USA in 2013. In October of 2017, I moved out to the countryside, where the nearest Hmart is 40 miles away. Having my own kitchen now, I am now able to make my own kimchi, and it bring me such joy. Korean cooking will always be a way of life for me. It reminds me always of the love I shared with my first husband, and I make kimchi for my family members as well. I recently purchased my first fermenting jar (Onggi), to be able to also make traditional style kimchi.
