What my Mom always used to do was make 오징어젓 (ojingo jeot), which is kind of like a squid kimchi. It’s meant to be eaten raw, at least in my experience.

@lisslalissar: Yeah, it does. My girl friend is in Korea right now so she gets to watch each episode before me and the proceeds to tease me about it.

Have you ever seen the movie 쉬리 (Shiri). Apparently IRIS is supposed to be a sequel of sorts Shiri backwards is irihs or iris^^

You can also buy little hangul stickers that you stick right to your keys. Check ebay, I’m sure they’re pretty easy to find.

I think one of the problems is is that Korea lacks the brand value of many other countries. When people take tours of Asia, Seoul is often not a part of the itinerary. The majority of Americans mistake which country both Samsung and LG belong to. Samsung is often mistaken for Japanese, while most Americans think that LG is American. I found this hard to believe as well, but a friend of the family owns one of the biggest polling firms in the world…

A sad fact, a very popular (and very busy) restaurant in NYC is a Japanese restaurant that serves Korean food. It’s always packed, and mainly with non-Koreans and your occasional celeb. Meanwhile, right down the street at an actual Korean restaurant, most of the patrons are Korean. The point being is that Japan has brand recognition. It’s a luxury brand, which people gobble up regardless of the product.

In conclusion, I can’t see any harm coming out of the fact that Korea is trying to push its cuisine. Korea needs to find a product/name that can make its way into people’s homes and be recognized because lets face it, Japanese food is ridiculously popular but outside of sushi most people have no idea what Japanese food is.

Well, if it’s for a birthday then you should most definitely prepare some miyeokguk. I believe there is a recipe for it on the site^^

As far as cakes go, if you can find a recipe for it, sweet potato cake is the most popular in Korea^^

Koreans have a lot of beliefs on what makes you grow tall^^

Being tall my self, when I lived in Korea my Aunts and Uncles would always make me play basketball with my cousins and teach them how to stretch. And on the street, every once in a while women would ask me what I ate when I was young that made me so tall…

I actually saw this episode when it aired, and to tell you the truth I liked it. For those who don’t know, the entire premise of the show is to search out the strangest foods both abroad and in the states. If it were a show simply aimed at exploring the cuisines of other countries I could see where people would get upset… but it’s not.

Anyways, that’s just the way I feel

When I make it, I like to use kimchi, which has gone a bit sour, and then I fry it with a little grapeseed oil.

It’s 칼국수 (kalgooksoo) with some extras added in. 요기 국수(yogi gooksoo), the restaurant, specializes in different varieties of 칼국수. I’m sure if you google kalgooksoo you’ll get some results, and then from there you can get creative with what you put in depending on your tastes. Hope this helps ^^
