Condensed milk, also known as sweetened condensed milk, is an essential ingredient for patbingsu (Korean shaved ice with sweet red beans and fruit). Drizzling this sweet and slightly sticky condensed milk on top of patbingsu will give it sweetness and make it taste more like ice cream when it’s mixed with shaved ice.

My cookbooks
Which to get? Both are best sellers and either one is a good choice if you want to learn Korean home cooking. Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking has all the recipes for all the essential Korean pastes and sauces, but my second book Maangchi's Big Book of Korean Cooking has more recipes, more photos, and more variety.

in brazil we use it to make a creamy chocolat , just hit a pan put all a condensed milk and 2 tbs of chocolat powder , its sooo good,
Thanks JamieF! I’ll give that a try.
Condensed milk is just a thick syrup of 50/50 milk and sugar – you could probably create your own with soy milk and sugar or coconut cream and sugar. Just a thought :)
That’s a brilliant idea!
oh, you are a vegan. You make vegan kimchi! I haven’t posted the recipe that needs condensed milk yet. Patbingsu (shaved ice with sweet red beans and fruit) recipe will be posted soon. After I post the recipe, let’s talk about it again.
I was wondering what could replace the condensed milk for vegans? Maybe coconut cream? I have never had condensed milk so I don’t know what it tastes like or consistency.
