I am SO happy I stumbled across this site! My husband is Korean and was adopted with his sister to a US family over 28 years ago. Although he doesn’t remember a whole lot from his days in Korea, over the past 10 years we both have been trying more korean food.
A year and a half ago, my husband received a letter from his Korean birth mother who had never been in contact with him. In the fall of 2010, my husband and his sister had an opportunity to travel to Seoul and meet their birth mother and uncle. This was their first trip to Korea since being adopted and it was an amazing experience for my husband, who never really felt a connection with his Korean heritage until he made the trip.
We are planning a trip back to Seoul in the spring of 2012 where I will be accompanying my husband and traveling to Korea for the first time. After my husband’s trip, he has been wanting me to try to make Korean dishes. Hence, my excitement with this site! We also have three children, a 7 year old son, a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a 3 month old daughter. My husband is feverishly trying to learn Korean for our trip next year and it is quite fun to see my two older kids speak Korean (and frankly, they are quite good!!).
Thanks for sharing your recipes and everyone’s tips and suggestions, I am very grateful that I can help introduce some Korean food to my children and help them learn about their heritage! :)
