International Kimchi Conference: Learn more about Kimchi, pickles, and the science of fermenting food! Happy early birthday! I really like to make Japchae for large parties because I can make a lot at once, its relatively cheap to make, and it can feed a number of people. Also, I am functioning on a college budge,t and this dish is good for that because you don't need a whole lot of meat for it. If you have lots of flavorful veggies added, you won't even miss it if you put less meat in to save money. A big platter of Kimbap is always a hit at parties too! Just wanted to give a shout about the Look East: Korean Film Festival that is taking place in Hollywood on June 23 and 24. No, it's not a food festival, but it is a celebration of Korean cinema and culture. There will be celebrated Korean films screened at Grauman's Chinese Theater and a highlight is the hand and footprint ceremony for Korean actors Lee Byung-hun ("G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," "A Bittersweet Life" and Ahn Sung-ki, a venerable Korean actor with over 80 films to his credit. This is the first time Korean actors will be part of this ceremony, so it's a pretty exciting event! I'm working with Look East and there will be a fundraiser event with some star Korean chef (or chefs). It's still being sorted out, but it's a big ticket event with a corresponding price. I'll post more details as they figure it all out, since it will be fun to see the menu.

All contestants must be over the age of 18 and are not required to be a professional chef, but must be passionate about grilling and of course, Korean BBQ! Contestant must bring 1 Korean BBQ inspired meat (can be any type of meat/protein item) dish along with a complementary side dish. We recommend bringing your item fully cooked and in a container that will keep the dish warm. The contestant should also bring a dish to plate for presentation purposes. So please prepare accordingly. Participants that arrive after 9:05am will not qualify. Winning contestants must be available on August 6th to compete at the 3rd Annual Korean BBQ Cook-off. The KBBQ Cook-off is an annual event held by the Korean American Coalition and they hold the right to refuse auditions to any contestant.
