Hello everybody!

Recently CJ Foods contacted me and offered to send me some Korean ingredients as a way of saying “thank you” for spreading Korean culture and cuisine. It was very kind of them to offer, but after talking to them some more, we decided it would be more fun to set up this giveaway for my readers. This is CJ’s way of encouraging you to cook Korean food, because they know that not everyone can find Korean ingredients easily.

So, leave a comment on this post, and you’ll be entered to win a Korean cooking startup kit from CJ.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZVGqgp5RZM

Please leave only one comment below, and then there will be 20 winners chosen at random by random.org. This contest is open to anyone in the world. Wherever you live, if you win then CJ will deliver this startup kit to your house.

Korean cooking startup kit

Korean cooking startup kit

The contest will close at midnight (New York time), December 15th and I’ll contact the winners through email. The winners need to answer me in 5 days, and if anyone doesn’t answer in time I’ll have to pick the next winner. So please, when you register for my website to leave a comment, make sure you use a current email! And be sure to check your email around that time!

The other cool thing about this startup kit is that a lot of the products in it are from CJ’s new Bibigo brand, which you’ll soon be able to buy outside of Korean grocery stores in the USA. I asked CJ about this, and they said Bibigo is just a new brand name for their Haechandle brand, which I have been using for decades and you may have seen in my ingredients section.

So, good luck to you! I hope you win!

Update Dec 23, 2011 – The contest is now closed, and the winners have been announced. Thank you for entering!

Oddly enough, it’s quite difficult to find Korean ingredients around here. There’s plenty of Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese products, but not Korean. Unfortunately, I never got to learn Korean or its culture as the University slashed the department, but I am determined at least to eat the cuisine!

Thank you very much for the effort you place in everything and I hope to make ddukbokki soon! :)

    Hi Maangchi.,

I’d like to thank you for introducing to Korean Cuisine. I now cook it regularly to my parents and grandmother. Ever since, I started making these dishes they’ve gotten to love its flavor. And the satisfaction I get knowing what I prepare them is healthy. Korean cuisine is one of the healthiest in the world.

More power to you Maangchi and hope that you continue all your efforts. I enjoy learning Korean Cuisine and Culture with you.

To say that Korean food is important for nourishment is falling short. It holds familial, cultural, and historical influence in my life. In handing down unwritten Hankuk recipes, my Halmonim, harabuji and kunharabuji would puKorean food into my mouth and ask what ingredients I tasted, what ingredient was missing, and what ingredient was more it in need of. At the age of 8 they began grooming me to become the keeper of the family recipes. When I was 25, they no longer cooked Korean food, saying that I had surpassed their abilities. Now at age 58, I have found one niece who has the talent and the motivation to be my predecessor. Naturally she is being taught as I have been, without a single written recipe!

I don’t know why my earlier comment didn’t get posted, but anyways – I think it’s a great idea to promote Korean cuisine. In my country getting some ingredients like bean paste or fish sauce is impossible. I hope I’ll win, if not then congrats to the 20 lucky winners :)

Annyong haseyo, Maangchi! Discovering you was the best thing that has happened to me in 2011! I spend my weekends cooking Korean food now, and then on Mondays I give samples to my co-workers. Winning this competition would be so great because I live in a small town with very few ingredients to buy. Thank you for your generosity!

안녕하세요 ♥ You are my example role. Like you, I also have a huge passion towards cooking and food, especially Korean food. I just found out that how much I love cooking a few month ago. Before, I just cooked and ate when I dorm at the university. But now as I have my own family, I need to cook. And just that I start to pursue cooking career. The taste of Korean food impresses me so much, so I decide to learn how to cook Korean food. As I watch your videos, I have learned a lot. Thank you so much Maangchi ♥ I hope one day I can open a traditional Korean food restaurant in Korea. If I open the restaurant, you should receive my invitation =)
