Maangchi meetup – Korean grocery shopping in New Jersey

So many people have asked me about shopping for Korean ingredients – they don’t know what to buy, or how to choose the best ingredients. So this meetup is going to be a trip to a big Korean grocery store in New Jersey. We’ll have lunch in the grocery store cafeteria (it’s pretty good!) and then shop together.

If you live in New Jersey, you can meet me there in the cafeteria. We’ll eat first, then shop. If you’re coming from Manhattan or Brooklyn, you can meet me at the Port Authority Bus station, and we can go together.

Meet at Port Authority Bus Terminal
In front of bus 166, on the platform
leaves at 12:10 pm (arrives 12:45 pm)

just in case you missed 12:10 pm bus, take 12:30 pm bus (arrives 1:05 pm)
Get off at Broad Avenue and  Shaler BLVD. (Ask the bus driver to let you know when to get off)

You can see the Hmart across the street on your left

    hi maangchi i love korean food and i watch ur cookin videos all the time and i wanna learn to cook korean food but its hard to know wht brands to buy so im so excited that u r coming to the hmart in new jersey i cant wait to meet u see u soon

    Hi,
    I updated the bus schedule from Port Authority for our meetup tomorrow.
    It leaves 12:10 pm, not 12:15 pm. If you miss the bus, take the next bus at 12:30 pm and it arrives 1:05.

    If you miss the bus and come by 12:30 pm bus, Get off at Broad Avenue and Shaler BLVD. (Ask the bus driver to let you know when to get off)

    I think i’m going to have to cancel as well… things are so delicate financially, i just can’t justify a trip into the city. I’m going to take stock of the situation towards the end of the week but…. does anyone know how much the bus fair is from to and from?

      I hope you can make it though. I think the bus fare is about $15.00 for round trip.

      The reason we are meeting there is that I want to help you guys choose right ingredients. If you can’t make it this time, I hope you can come for next year’s meetup.

      I think No 7 subway comes to Times Square from Grand Central. Get off at Times Square and walk to Port Authority. See you soon!

        I don’t think I am going to be able to get off of work for the day! :( I live about 2 hours away. I have to be at work around 430 pm. There will not be enough time. I hope you have another meet up soon or a cooking class. I would love to meet you!
